Jan Phelan began her first year at Ontario College of Art at the age of 16 where she fell in love with clay. She graduated from Ontario College of Art with first class honours and established her own ceramic studio. Her work has been presented to Margaret Thatcher of the UK and she has won the national competition to create a 21 place setting tableware for the Governor General of Canada. Jan has exhibited in the Cheongju Korea International Biennale of Craft, created 50 vases for E-7 Summit Conference and made Presidential Gifts for the Canadian Bar Association. Her favourite client is jazz musician Oscar Peterson, who has several of her works. Jan’s process includes making her own clay, completing all the firings, the last of which fires the 22K gold permanently onto each piece.
